Not that long ago, laptops were just something of a stopgap
tool. Something you could use until
getting home to your desktop where the real magic happened. Well, maybe that is
not quite right, but the point is that the current crop of laptops has given
users a range of capabilities that were unimaginable just a few years ago. Among these capabilities, two of the most
important are video and media performance.
So as to help you make a wise choice among laptops, in no particular
order a list of the 5 best laptops for video and media performance is offered
here.
HP Envy 17
This laptop has been recognized generally as one of the best
laptops on the market. Specifically, the Envy features a 17.3-inch HD screen. To make your ears smile, the laptop features
Beat Audio, which allows complete control over audio levels. As if that weren’t enough, the laptop has six
speakers to take your audio enjoyment to a new level. The HP Envy 17 retails for approximately
$1499.99.
Sony S Series
This extra light laptop boasts a remarkably sharp display. The 13.3-inch LED backlit LED screen with
1600 x900 dpi resolution makes every image sharp and watching movies a true
experience. The Sony S Series sells for
approximately $1099.00.
Apple MacBook Pro 15
The first thing to be noted about the Apple MacBook Pro 15 is the
substantial price in comparison to other laptops. The manufacturers suggested retail price
(MSRP) is $1799 although you may be able to find it for a bit lower if you shop
around. If money is not a roadblock, the
Apple MacBook Pro 15 provides upgraded graphics with the AMD Radeon HD 6750M
graphics processor which until now was reserved only for the high-end
notebooks. The standard 1440 x 900 pixel
LED screen can be upgraded to a high-resolution 1680 x 1050 display for even
sharper images and video.
HP Pavilion zd7000
Right off the bat, it is obvious that the HP Pavilion zd7000’s
17-inch LCD is great for editing and viewing needs. But what is not so obvious until you see it
in action is that it comes with MusicMatch Jukebox to create and store
playlists of your music and Harman Kardon speakers to bring the music
alive. In addition, the nVidia GeForce
FX Go 5600 graphics adapter with 128MB memory makes gaming a true event.
Alienware M17x
According to many reviewers, this is one of the most powerful
laptops available today. While the
17.3-inch AlienwareM17x is aimed specifically at gamers,
its top speeds make it a good choice for anyone. The laptop features 2GB GDDR5 Radeon HD 6990M
graphics to bring games to life and the 1920 x 1080p HD display has NVIDIA 3D
Vision to make it all jump off the screen. It sells for about $899.
Now that you have seen some of what today’s laptops have to offer
in terms of video and media performance, you can make a wise choice in your
next portable computer. That list again:
- HP Envy 17

- Apple MacBook Pro 15
- HP Pavilion zd7000
- Alienware M17x
