Difference Between SD ,HD Ready and Full HD TV and Set Top Box

In the era of continuous changing technology, we have completely different style and format of viewing TV or any display. Currently we are offered three formats which are SD (standard definition) , HD(High Definition) Ready and Full HD.
Standard definition, High definition

Whether buying a TV, Laptop, any Mobile or DTH Set top Box, we get confused which format to select and what is the difference in these three formats.

So here is a comparison between SD, HD Ready and Full HD ,basic difference lies in pixels size

SD (Standard definition) Gadgets are those which can display 480p , means a pixel resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. Standard definition has always 4:3 aspect ratio.

HD Ready Gadgets can display an image from HD signal, HD ready comes with 720 horizontal lines, means a pixel resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels , which is really very great of watching HD videos and HD broadcasting videos. Though HD ready is capable of playing full HD resolution, but sometimes picture may get stuck, and hanging problem can happen.

Full HD gadgets can display 1080 horizontal lines per frame, means a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, Full HD display contains a greater detail of picture and it brings an extreme level of real life detail and perfect experience of watching High definition videos. HD supports 16:9 aspect ratios.

To watch the HD videos, you are required to have HD supported TV, Laptop, mobile or Set Top box. You cannot watch HD videos in standard definition gadgets.

Increasing the pixels will also affects the cost, lower resolution costs less, and higher resolution will cost more.

When we see TV channels using SD Set top box, we experience a great picture quality and find it crystal clear, but now you can imagine the picture quality would be in HD ready and full HD.
Full HD Set top box shows a picture five times clearer than SD Set top box.
