MBA or PGDM - Which Is Best Option?

Confuse between MBA (Master of Business Administration) and PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management)

If you are planning to go for Management course, you would have seen some colleges provide you MBA degree and some gives PGDM. So you might be in dilemma, what to choose?

So here we will try to understand basic difference between MBA and PGDM. Colleges which are affiliated to some state or center university, give you MBA (Master of Business Administration) degree and colleges which are deemed or run privately (autonomous), give you PGDM (Approved by AICTE) degree.

Broadly there is no much difference between MBA and PGDM. both leads you to the position of Manager, education standard and job profile remain same and both are considered equal.

Difference comes in way of teaching and what you are taught. PGDM curriculum is more industrial oriented and focuses on your personality development and leadership ability, while MBA is more academic oriented, focuses on theory part more and state or center university design and review the curriculum. Institute with PGDM degree, have freedom to design and update their curriculum and functioning any time, it is beneficial for students as institution can change curriculum as per industry trend or requirement every year. They have freedom to conduct exams in their own way. It becomes very important in ever changing and growing business scenario, that you keep on updating your students with on going business norms and strategies. Though universities providing MBA, they also change their curriculum but normally they do it in 2 to 3 years, they review it and then apply the applicable changes.

But If you are interested in further study like Phd, then you must go for MBA degree, as it focuses more on theoretical aspect and examination oriented.

Top colleges of India like IIM's (Indian Institute of Management) offers PGDM and JBIMS (JamnaLal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies), is affiliated with Mumbai university and offers MBA degree. Both institutions are best in terms of education and Placement activities.

So overall thing is to choose reputed or prestigious college whether you pursue MBA or PGDM, because if you go for unrecognized or non-reputed college, in that case MBA or PGDM both are useless.
